Insights and events
Robert Gardener is a former Civil Servant in the Cabinet Office, and senior adviser to global corporations, governments and not-for-profit organisations. He has also spent time living in the Middle East where he worked for a wholly-owned company of the Government of Abu Dhabi.
Robert works alongside lawyers throughout the firm to ensure our legal advice is strongly infused with a public policy perspective, to help provide clarity to clients on regulatory environments, and to inform clients' current and perspective business decisions on which government policy may have an impact. That is why we are the only firm top-ranked by Chambers UK, for both Administrative and Public Law and Public Affairs, and by Legal 500 for Administrative and Public Law.
Robert co-leads the firm's global programme on Geopolitical Risk and National Security, and is a member of the Global Regulatory & IPMT Leadership. He is a member of a number of Government expert advisery panels, including National Security and Investment in the Cabinet Office, and regularly advises Central Government on the business and regulatory implications of policy considerations.
In February 2023, Robert was appointed by the Ministry of Justice to be one of two Lay Advisers to the Northumbria Multi-agency public protection arrangements ("MAPPA"). He is also a College Mentor at Durham University, where he read Law.
