Maggie Hedges named General Counsel of Hogan Lovells US LLP
Global law firm Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce that Maggie Hedges has been named General Counsel for Hogan Lovells US LLP, effective July 1. Hedges will be stepping into the role currently held by Peter Bisio, who is retiring from the firm at the end of June.
A long-time member of the Hogan Lovells community, Hedges began at the firm as a civil litigation associate in 1999. She joined the General Counsel’s office in 2014 as Assistant General Counsel and was promoted to Deputy General Counsel in January 2020 where she has served as the co-chair of the firm’s legal ethics committee.
In the role of Deputy General Counsel, Hedges has handled all areas of risk management for the firm, including conflicts, ethics and professional responsibility, compliance with laws and regulatory requirements, cyber event preparation, firm contracts and other written agreements, professional liability insurance, complaints from clients and third parties, claims and litigation related matters, and all instances in which she is requested to protect the firm and our people.
José Valdivia, partner and Chief Legal Officer at Hogan Lovells, commented: “Maggie is a trusted advisor to me and the senior management team, with every member of our International Management Committee endorsing her for General Counsel. As we welcome Maggie to her new role, we also want to thank Peter for the outstanding job he has always done playing a challenging and vital role for the firm. He will certainly be missed by me and all of us on the General Counsel’s team and we wish him all the best in his retirement.”
In addition to Hedges’ elevation, the HLUS General Counsel’s team recently welcomed Ben Peachey as a new Assistant General Counsel. Peachey started at Hogan Lovells as an associate in the Investigations, White Collar, and Fraud practice area.
