Hogan Lovells advises The Birch Group on the acquisition of the Blue Devils ice hockey club

Press releases | 05 March 2025

Led by Hamburg partner Dr. Alexander Koch, global law firm Hogan Lovells has advised The Birch Group, a US-based investment company, on its acquisition of the German ice hockey club Blue Devils. The Birch Group acquired all shares in Blue Devils Spielbetriebs GmbH.

With this investment, The Birch Group filled the gap left by the insolvency of the club’s main sponsor. The California-based investment company aims to strengthen and further develop the club’s long-term prospects. The Blue Devils are a professional ice hockey club based in Weiden, Bavaria, and currently in DEL2, Germany’s second-highest ice hockey league.

Hogan Lovells provided comprehensive legal advice to The Birch Group throughout the transaction, assisting with contractual negotiations and supporting its new role as the club’s sole owner.

"We are thrilled to have advised The Birch Group on this strategic investment and to contribute to the long-term stability and success of the Blue Devils," said Dr. Alexander Koch.
