Four Hogan Lovells teams selected among Law360's Practice Groups of the Year
Washington, D.C., 10 March 2023 — Hogan Lovells is pleased to announce that four of the firm’s practice areas have been named among Law360’s Practice Groups of the Year for 2022: Antitrust, Competition, and Economic Regulation; Real Estate; Sports; and Telecommunications.
The prestigious awards series recognizes the most prominent practice groups throughout the legal profession, honoring “teams behind litigation wins and major deals that resonated throughout the legal industry this past year.” Winners were picked from more than 800 entries.
Our Antitrust, Competition, and Economic Regulation practice was selected following a banner year which saw the team achieve success in several high profile cases. Among our most notable achievements was an outright victory over the Department of Justice in its challenge to UnitedHealth’s US$13.8 billion acquisition of Change Healthcare. Hogan Lovells antitrust teams also advised Kustomer on European antitrust clearance following a US1 billion offer for the company by Meta (Facebook), and won a Third Circuit appeal on behalf of Blue Cross Blue Shield ending a decade-long dispute with heart monitoring device maker LifeWatch. Our Real Estate team was selected for the second year in a row after another dominant year, again highlighting the firm’s strength in REITs. The team led Duke Realty in its US$23 billion acquisition by Prologis, advised Welltower, a healthcare infrastructure REIT, in over $2 billion worth of transactions, and advised VICI on a number of debt issuances with an aggregate value in excess of US$13 billion. The latter follows the representation of VICI on its US$17.2 billion strategic acquisition of MGM Growth Properties. Law360’s practice profile is here.
Our Sports group celebrated its third Law360 Practice Group of the Year win in the last four years, having had arguably its most significant year in the group’s history. The firm advised the Walton-Penner family group in its acquisition of the NFL’s Denver Broncos, in a deal reportedly valued at US$4.65 billion, making it the largest sports franchise transaction in history. Additionally, the firm advised on a breakthrough private equity investment in the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning, capital markets fundraising for Major League Cricket, and on Cognosante founder Michele Kang’s acquisition of a controlling interest in Washington Spirit, a National Women’s Soccer League franchise. Additionally, our Telecommunications practice was selected for the second time in three years following another outstanding year, which included guiding client T-Mobile in acquiring US$2.9 billion of spectrum in a Federal Communications Commission auction, representing NextNav in its US$1.2 billion global business combination with Spartacus Acquisition Corporation, and guiding the Drone Racing League (DRL), the world’s premier professional drone racing league, on FCC spectrum policy and licensing matters.
