Elie Kommel’s practice supports clients on a wide range of environmental issues at the state and federal level, including regulatory compliance, investigations, civil and criminal enforcement, and permitting. His experience includes addressing issues arising under the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Clean Air Act (CAA), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), CERCLA, the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), and various state and local environmental laws.

While in law school, Elie served as a law clerk for the Honorable Amy Berman Jackson in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and as an honors law clerk in EPA’s Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance – Air Enforcement Division. Elie was also as a member of the George Washington Law Review and Treasurer of the GW Environmental and Energy Law Association.

Representation of infrastructure maintenance and services client in CWA criminal grand jury investigation, plea negotiations, sentencing, and counsel during term of probation.

Representation of international cruise line operator in civil investigation and enforcement regarding waste management and alleged RCRA claims.

Representation of an engineering firm in connection with a federal criminal investigation into waste disposal practices at a landfill in California.

Representation of a petrochemical manufacturer before EPA Office of Suspension and Debarment in connection with a fire and explosion at a facility in Port Neches, Texas.*
